European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD)

European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) is a public health initiative aimed at encouraging responsible use of antibiotics.

Held on 18th November every year, European Antibiotic Awareness Day is a UK wide initiative led by Public Health England .  The NHS, local authorities and others are asked to support EAAD which can make a significant impact locally and nationally.

Become an Antibiotic Guardian

For EAAD 2014, Public Health England is asking everyone in the UK, the public and the medical community to become Antibiotic Guardians.

On the Antibiotic Guardian website, choose one simple pledge about how you’ll make better use of antibiotics and help save this vital medicine from becoming obsolete.

Earl Howe speaks about European Antibiotic Awareness Day

Earl Howe, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Quality, spoke about European Antibiotic Awareness Day at the 15th Annual Self Care Conference 2013 (see video below).  He says that colds and flu don’t respond to antibiotics and people can treat their symptoms with advice from a pharmacist.  He adds that the Government has consciously made the link between the EAAD campaign and Self Care Week as an important way of getting the message across to people.’
