Fact Sheets

To continue with our work of producing free self-care resources to help organisation at the local level, we rely on donations and fundraising. If you find our resources helpful, please donate if you can.

Sponsoring a Fact Sheet

Our fact sheets are popular self-care resources.  We are inviting organisations to sponsor an existing or new fact sheet.  For more information about our sponsorship opportunities contact selfcare@selfcareforum.org.

About the Fact Sheets

The Self-Care Forum fact sheets aim to help clinicians and service-users discuss issues around self-care within the practice or pharmacy setting and especially how to handle the symptoms in the future. They provide patients with information on:

  • Useful facts
  • What people can expect to happen (the natural history)
  • What people can do to help themselves – now and in the future
  • When to seek medical help (the ‘red flags’)
  • Where to find out more

For more details about how the fact sheets were developed see below.

How were the Fact Sheets developed?
They were produced by the Self-Care Forum Trustees using the following resources and partners to help develop the fact sheets:

  • Clinical Knowledge Summaries from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
  • Guidelines from the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN)
  • Publications produced by the UK Royal Colleges and major charities
  • Selected major peer reviewed scientific articles
  • NHS Websites (including those in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales)
  • Patient UK
  • Moorfields Eye Hospital Website
  • NHS National Menopause Clinical Reference Group

The fact sheets were assessed at draft stages by members of the Self-Care Forum Board and advisors, many of whom are health professionals.   Self-Care Champions also reviewed the fact sheets, checking them for readability and understanding.  More information is available here.

The fact sheets have been produced and independently verified by the Self-Care Forum, which is responsible for the content overall.   They are reviewed every 2 years by the Self -are Forum Board.   Here is a copy of the production manual which includes details of the review process.

How can the Fact Sheets be used?

The fact sheets are free to download from the Self-Care Forum website and may be printed and distributed without further permission.  If however, the content is altered permission would need to be sought (email selfcare@selfcareforum.org).
