Fact sheets for Women in the Criminal Justice System

According to the UK Government, women in prison have disproportionately higher levels of health and social care needs compared to their male counterparts in prison and women in the general population.

These needs can include physical health conditions and mental health challenges, and can impact their overall wellbeing and quality of life. The Self-Care Forum and NHS England have worked closely with the Criminal Justice System to produce 4 women’s health fact sheets to help support women with menopause, urinary incontinence, managing periods and with contraception.

The fact sheets have been written by medical experts and have been reviewed by two patient groups specialising in “the lived experience” and “neurodiversity” to assess readability and suitability of the information.
